This highly unusual antique brooch features a snake serpent twisted into a knot design, decorated with colourful Paste stones, modelled in 15ct yellow gold.
The piece is ever-so versatile. The snake's tongue loops around as a hook, allowing you to wear the brooch and add a charm to drop down. By removing the pin for safety, the brooch can also be used as a chain extender.
The cult of snake jewellery began in 1840, when Queen Victoria received a snake-emerald ring from Prince Albert for their engagement. Snake jewellery became popular throughout the 19th century, symbolising eternity and everlasting love.
This quality brooch would make a great addition to any collection or the perfect gift.
