This heavy Victorian Albert Chain, measuring 14" in length and modelled in sterling silver, features fancy links, a T-bar, a medal, and a dog clip fastening.
This chain is hallmarked with the Lion mark on every link. It weighs an impressive 68.7 grams, and the chain is hallmarked for Birmingham 1892.
It also features a fancy medal pendant, which is dated to Birmingham, 1900, complete with a gold front.
An Albert chain is a decorative chain initially used to attach a pocket watch to the wearer's clothing. The chain was named after Prince Albert, who was said to have been fond of wearing watch chains. The Dog clip would have been used to attach a pocket watch or fob, and the T-Bar would go through the buttonhole of a waistcoat to secure it in place.
Today, these are worn as necklaces, and the clips can be used to hang pendants or charms.
This is a quality example of an Albert chain, which would make a great addition to any collection.
